عريضة و خطاب مقتوح لمنى الطحاوي
في شهر فبراير 2011 قبلت الشخصية الاعلامية منى الطحاوي دعوة للمشاركة في مؤتمر مجموعة جي-سترييت؛ حيث زعمت
ان انتفاضة 25 يناير المصرية والتي خلعت الرئيس السابق حسني مبارك في 11
فبراير 2011 كانت حصريا تهاجم شئون داخلية ولم يكن لها أي علاقة أو موقف من
اسرائيل. بل صرحت بمنتهى الوضوح أن "لم يكن هناك في الثورة من احتراق أي
أعلام دول أخرى... ولم يكن هناك من تعبير أي شعور أو مواقف مناهضة لدولة
اسرائيل أو الولايات المتحدة." وصرحت أيضا بأن المصريين و العرب الأخرين
سوف يرحبون بصهاينة "جي-ستريت" وباليهود الاسرائيليين بشكل عام؛ اذا قاموا
بما اشارت اليه ك"مسيرة من أجل الحرية والكرامة للفلسطينيين".
بتوقيعنا
على هذا البيان فنحن نعلن ونأكد عدم صحة تلك التصريحات. بينما ندلل عدم
مصدقية أول تصريح من خلال مراجعة بسيطة لأدلة من صور وصحافة انتفاضة
الثماني عشر يوم فان التصريح الثان ينفى بالمبدأ حيث أن السيدة منى الطحاوي
ليست متحدثة منتخبة أو مفوضة أو ممثلة باسم أي حركة مصرية أو عربية وليست
لديها أي علاقات موضوعية مع أي مجموعات النشاط السياسي أو الاجتماعي التي
تشكل ثورة 25 يناير سواء كان على المستوى الرسمي من حيث ائتلاف شباب 25
يناير أو من حيث الحركات السياسية و الاجتماعية على أرض الواقع. باختصار -
منى الطحاوي تتحدث فقط نيابة عن نفسها وليست متحدثة منتخبة أو شرعية للرأي
العام في مصر أو فلسطين أو أي وطن أخر في الأمة العربية أو المسلمة.
منظمة
جي-سترييت هي منظمة عمل سياسي أمريكية صهيونية "لبرالية" بروابط قوية
لدولة اسرائيل وأجندة واضحة الانحياز لاسرائيل؛ وهي أجندة مزدرة لحركة
تحرير فلسطين؛ ترفد حق اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في العودة الى ديارهم وأراضي وطنهم؛ فقد حاولت تلك المنظمة أن تقضي على حركة المقاطعة والعقوبات وسحب الاستثمارات
وهي حركة عالمية ذات قيادة فلسطينية. وفي ظل هذا الموقف ونظرا الى
التصريحات المزعجة الزائفة التي قد أصدرتها منى الطحاوي باسم المصريين
والمواطنين العرب الأخرين؛ اضافة الى تاريخها في التطبيع مع دولة اسرائيل
(فهي فد رددت عدة مرات أنها "أول صحفية مصرية تعمل وتسكن باسرائيل" وهي
تستمر حتى اليوم في العمل لملتحق "تقرير اورشليم" وهو جزء من جريدة "اورشليم بوست"
المؤسسة الصهيونية المشهورة والتي تعتبر بمقياس اسرائيلي ذات سياسة "
يمينية") فنحن نناشد منى الطحاوي مع كل الاحترام الواجب والأمانة بالاجابة
بصراحة واضحة على المجتمعات التي تتدعي أنها تمثلها أو تنتمي اليها فنطالب
بالأتي: :
(أ) - اصدار تصريح حاسم وواضح ينشر فيه بوضوح وتفاصيل موقفك تجاه حركة ((المقاطعة والعقوبات وسحب الاستثمارات))
وهي الحركة العالمية ضد اسرائيل ذات قيادة فلسطينية. لدينا الحق والضرورة في استعلام ما هو موقفك كشخصية اعلامية
عامة وكناشطة سياسية - بمنتهى الوضوح فهل تؤيدين
تلك الحركة أم لا.
نناشدك
باعلان موقفك من تلك الحركة ثم شرح تطبيعك لدولة اسرائيل نظرا الى الدعوة
القاعدية ذات قاعدة عريضة من أغلبية الفلسطينيين للمقاطعة - على يد كل
مؤسسة أو انسان ذو ضمير- لجميع المؤسسات الاسرائيلية الصهيونية؛ بما فيها
من قطاع عام أو خاص؛ والتي تحمل مسؤلية وتواطؤ للاحتلال والحصار المستمر
لاراضي فلسطين.
(ب)
التراجع بوضوح عن قولك أن انتفاضة 25 يناير لم تكن لها علاقة باسرائيل
والولايات المتحدة. الاعتراف بوجود ظاهر للغاية للحس التضامني مع فلسطين
والمناهض لدولة اسرائيل؛ وذلك من لافتات واشارات متعددة كما اشارت الى
مقاومة ومناهضة الامبريالية الامريكية في المنطقة. نطالب باصدار اعتذارعلني
لذلك الفعل الغير مسئول من تعليقات غيرمصرحة - مضللة - وغير دقيقة.
كلا
من الطلبين السابقين يعكسان مخاوف شرعية وذات صلة للغاية لكل من نشطاء
متضامنين مع فلسطين؛ الحركات الثورية؛ المنظمات الحقوقية؛ والمجتمع المدني
بكامله في كل من فلسطين؛ مصر؛ الوطن العربي بأوسعه؛ بالاضافة الى الولايات
المتحدة والعالم بشكل عام.
فعلى مدى العقد الماضي وأطول من ذلك قد قامت منى الطحاوي بالعديد من التدخلات في مجموعة من المواضيع الواسعة للغاية منهم: العنصرية و11 سبتمبر والنساء المسلمات فالنساء العرب؛ والحجاب فالنقاب؛ والأنظمة العربية وكامب ديفيد والسادات
والمصريين وغيره. ومع ذلك فهي لن تصرح حتى اليوم بأي تصريح علني أو قاطع
بالنسبة للحركة الشعبية الفلسطينية ((المقاطعة والعقوبات وسحب
الاستثمارات)) ضد اسرائيل.
بينما
نحن نرحب ونؤيد جميع المبادرات - الفردية أو الجماعية - للدعوة و دعم قضية
العدل والحرية الفلسطينية وبينما نعترف بتعدد الأراء والاتجهات فيما بين
الفلسطينيين ذات نفسهم؛ بين الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة ومخيمات اللاجئين
المجاورة والشتات العالمي بشكل عام؛ الا اننا أيضا نعترف بأن جميع منظمات
المقاومة الفلسطينية والمجتمع المدني بأكمله يتفقون على الشئون الأساسية
للقضية الفلسطينية و يتفقون بأغلبية ساحقة على حركة المقاطعة.
بصفتنا
نشطاء متضامنين مع فلسطين و بصفتنا مصريين وفلسطينيين وعرب؛ وبصفتنا ناس
لدينا ضميروقد عرضنا لسوء التمثيل أو عدم التمثيل لأغلبية تاريخنا الحديث؛
فنحن لن نحتمل الزيادة من سوء التمثيل على يد متحدثو غير منتخبين ولم
ينتموا لمجتمعاتنا العملية وحركاتنا من أجل التغيير. فالموقع أدناه يدعو
منى الطحاوي لتستجيب بوضوح وبشكل قاطع الى كل من السؤالين السابقين بما يخص
حركة ((المقاطعة والعقوبات وسحب الاستثمارات)) والتصريحات الفاسدة التي
اصدرتها خلال مؤتمر جي-سترييت المشار اليه

Petition and Open Letter to Mona Eltahawy
In February 2011, Mona Eltahawy accepted an invitation to a J-Street conference in which she alleged
that the Egyptian uprising of 25th January - 11th February 2011 was
solely about internal issues and that it had nothing to do with Israel
or the United States and its imperial control over Egypt and the wider
Middle East. Indeed, she explicitly said "not one country's flag was
burned... not one anti-Israeli or anti-American sentiment was
expressed", and that Egyptians and other Arabs will embrace the Zionists
of J-Street, and Israeli Jews more generally, should they "march for
Palestinian freedom and dignity".
We,
the undersigned, declare with emphasis the falsehood of both
statements. While the first statement is easily falsified through a
cursory review of photographic and journalistic evidence from the 18-day
uprising that ousted Hosni Mubarak, the second statement is falsified
in principle owing to the fact that Mona Eltahawy is NOT an elected
spokesperson, negotiator or representative of ANY Egyptian or other Arab
movement, nor is she connected in any substantive way to any of the
active Egyptian groups that are associated with the 25th January
revolution, whether through the official, state-recognized 25th January
Youth Coalition or through other political and social movements on the
ground. In short, Mona Eltahawy speaks only for herself and is not an
elected or legitimate spokesperson for public opinion in Egypt,
Palestine or elsewhere in the Arab or Muslim world.
J-Street
is a "liberal" American Zionist political action group with strong ties
to Israel and an explicitly pro-Israel agenda which is contemptuous of
the Palestinian liberation movement, rejects the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and lands of origin and has sought explicitly to defeat the Palestinian-led global BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement.
In light of this fact, but also in light of the alarming false remarks
made by Mona Eltahawy in the name of Egyptians and other Arabs, as well
as her record of normalization with Israel (Mona Eltahawy has repeatedly
identified herself as "the first Egyptian journalist to work and live
in Israel" and continues to work for The Jerusalem Report, which is part of The Jerusalem Post,
a mainstream Zionist Israeli institution that is considered by Israeli
standards to be "right-wing"), we call on Mona Eltahawy to do the
following:
Mona
Eltahawy, we ask sincerely and with all due respect, that you publicly
and categorically respond to those communities which you claim to
represent or belong to and respond to the following:
(a)
Make a clear and categorical statement in which you explicitly outline
and detail your position on the Palestinian-led global BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement. As a public personality (and activist), your reluctance
to state a position one way or the other is irresponsible and
politically problematic, leaving us with no choice but to judge based on
your behavior. We have a right and a necessity to know categorically
whether or not you support the BDS call and movement.
Please
state whether or not you support this movement, and explain your
normalization with the State of Israel in relation to the broad-based
and grassroots call by the majority of Palestinians for a boycott - by
all conscientious individuals and institutions - of all Zionist Israeli
institutions, public or private, that are responsible for and complicit
in the ongoing occupation and siege of Palestine.
(b)
Retract your statement in which you allege that the 25th January
uprising had nothing to do with Israel and the US. Acknowledge the
overwhelmingly visible presence of solidarity with Palestinians and
anti-Israel banners and signs, as well as those in resistance and
opposition to US-led imperial control, alliance with Mubarak and
exploitation of the region. Apologize publicly for the irresponsible act
of making such a misleading, inaccurate and unauthorized statement.
Both
of the above demands reflect legitimate and highly relevant concerns to
Palestine solidarity activists, revolutionary movements, rights
organizations and civil society as a whole in all of Palestine, Egypt,
the wider Arab region, as well as the United States and the world more
generally.
Over
the last decade and more, Mona Eltahawy has made numerous unsolicited
interventions on an extremely wide range of topics, including but not
limited to: racism, 9/11, Islam, Muslim women, Arab women, the hijab and niqab, Arab regimes, Camp David, Sadat, Egyptians,
and so on. However, to date, she has never made any public or
categorical statement in relation to the popular Palestinian-led BDS
movement against Israel.
While
we welcome and support all initiatives, by individuals or groups,
seeking to advocate and support the cause for Palestinian justice and
freedom, and while we recognize a diversity of opinions and currents
among Palestinians themselves, between the West Bank, Gaza, the
neighboring refugee camps and the global diaspora more generally, we
also recognize that organized Palestinian resistance movements and civil
society as a whole are united on the core issues at the heart of the
Palestinian cause, and overwhelmingly supportive of the popular and
organized BDS movement.
As
Palestine solidarity activists, as Egyptians, as Palestinians, as
Arabs, as people of conscience who have been misrepresented and
non-represented for most of our modern history, and as people of
conscience more generally, we will not tolerate further
misrepresentation by unelected spokespeople who do not belong to those
communities of action and movements for change which they claim to
represent. This constitutes not only a betrayal of our causes by someone
from the region, but a betrayal of all people of conscience across the
world with whom we share universal human values and have stood with our
morally compelling cause. Deliberate public misrepresentation or any
kind of selective, conditional representation in blatant contradiction
of reality or democratic principle is harmful and inexcusable,
regardless of intention We, the undersigned, therefore call on Mona Eltahawy to publicly, explicitly and categorically respond to our above
concerns regarding both BDS and the false statements she made at the
J-street conference in question.
